Course Description
Aim
The NEBOSH Award in Environmental Awareness at Work provides an introduction to environmental issues within the workplace. It is aimed at staff who require a basic understanding of environmental issues such as in organisations that are:
- Looking to introduce an Environmental Management System
- Seeking to improve their environmental performance
Course Content
The NEBOSH Award is made up of one unit:
Unit EAW1: Environmental Awareness
- Foundations of environmental awareness
- The meaning of environment, habitats, ecosystems, pollution and sustainability
- The importance and benefits of sustainable development
- Environmental management systems (EMS)
- Pollution, impact assessment and emergencies
- Principles and practice of impact (risk) assessments
- The main sources, types, control and impacts of air pollution
- The main sources, controls and impacts of water pollution
- The main sources, controls and impacts of environmental noise
- Types of waste – hazardous, non-hazardous, and other legally controlled categories
- Waste management
- Dealing with environmental emergencies
Assessment
The NEBOSH Award in Environmental Awareness at Work is assessed by a 30-
minute multiple-choice exam, which takes place on the day of the course.
