Steve has possibly the least number of years sailing experience of those on the BSS team and yet he has an unmatched level of enthusiasm for taking part in the challenging Fastnet race. Safety manager Steve is integral to ensuring the highest levels of compliance on all Verry Construction sites. However, like many other safety professionals, he enjoys the buzz of taming new challenges and achieving dangerous activities, safely.
The army introduced Steve to the delights of sailing in his youth and in 2005 he qualified with fellow team members Steve Burke and Pat McLoughlin, for his Yacht Masters certificate. When asked about the motivation for entering the race he said, “its another box to tick, I’ve climbed Mont Blanc three times and now I want the satisfaction of knowing I’ve done this as well.” Steve is no stranger to competition and adrenaline sports, whilst in the army he represented them in judo and boxing, since then his activities have included sea kayaking, climbing (including Mont Blanc) and long distance cycling.
