NEBOSH has updated the National General Certificate – the most trusted health and safety qualification of its kind in the world. It’s designed to reflect the needs of today’s employer giving learners everything they need to know and do to make their workplace safer.

The new syllabus has been streamlined to allow core skills to be considered in greater depth. It covers how to effectively manage health and safety, the UK’s key legal requirements and how to identify and control the key workplace hazards in every kind of workplace. Risk assessment is central to the NGC qualification making sure it reflects the real-life roles people perform.

Course Objectives

With in-depth focus on the things that matter, the NGC covers:

Upon completion of this course, candidates will be able to:

  • Identify common and obvious hazards in the workplace, and be able to recommend remedial actions;
  • Investigate accidents (including near misses), and make logical, cost-effective recommendations to prevent recurrence;
  • Identify the main items of health and safety legislation that apply to workplaces;
  • Recognise the human and organisational problems that must be overcome to achieve a safe and healthy environment;
  • Use information sources to advise managers on safety matters.

Risk assessment is central to the NGC qualification. Through study and workplace application, successful learners will be able to:

The NEBOSH National General Certificate is made up of two units:

Unit NG1: Management of Health and Safety

Unit NG2: Risk Assessment

  • Physical and psychological health

  • Electricity

Assessment

Units NG1 of the NEBOSH National Certificate is assessed by an open book exam completed at home. Unit NG2 is assessed by a practical assessment carried out in your workplace.
