CITB - Construction Skills Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)

Course Description

This five-day Site management safety training scheme (SMSTS) course is designed for site managers, agents and persons who are, or are about to be, responsible for planning, organising, monitoring, controlling and administering groups of staff within a construction environment.

The course covers all relevant legislation and other aspects which affect safe working in the building, construction and civil engineering industries. It highlights the need for risk assessment in the workplace, the implementation of the necessary control measures, and adequate communication to sustain a health and safety culture among the workforce.

The SMSTS course is endorsed by Build UK as the standard training for all construction managers.

Aim

To help site managers to:

  • Manage health and safety on site in accordance with current legal provisions and within the context of their management role
  • Develop an understanding of responsibility and accountability for site health, safety and welfare
  • Recognise that a safe site is efficient, economical, productive and environmentally friendly

Objectives

Upon completion of this module, course members should be able to:

    1. 1. Describe the general background of health and safety legislation in the building, construction and civil engineering industry
    • 2. Understand the various roles played by enforcing authorities and consultation with employees
    • 3. Describe the responsibilities of those concerned with the implementation of health and safety legislation
    • 4. Recognise their legal, moral and social obligations to maintain a healthy and safe site in the context of risks at work and welfare standards
              5. understand the roles that others have for health and safety at work, e.g.                clients, designers, contractors and subcontractors

Entry requirements

Delegates should hold, or be about to hold, the role of a manager. Delegates must be competent in English at site management level.

Cancellations

Refunds of fees will only be made for written cancellations received at least 14 days prior to the start of the course (less a 10% cancellation fee to cover administration costs). However, we are happy to accept substitute delegates. Any changes to delegates should be notified, by telephone, as soon as possible.Bookings that are accepted within 48 hours are deemed confirmed and subject to payment, even if the delegate is subsequently unable to attend.
